Private Aviation: Le Bourget vs. Luton — Which Hub for European Travel?
Le Bourget is Europe's busiest private aviation airport by volume. Luton handles roughly half. But raw volume is not the metric — service standards, immigration handling, weather reliability and ground transport make the real difference.
Le Bourget
Eight FBOs operating, including Signature, Universal Aviation, Advanced Air Support. Sixteen kilometres from central Paris — twenty minutes by chauffeur outside rush, forty inside. Customs are responsive, immigration takes pre-clearance well. Weather diversion rate: 3% annual.
Luton
Fewer FBOs, but Signature Luton is one of the best in Europe. Forty-three kilometres from central London — fifty minutes by chauffeur, twelve by helicopter to Battersea. Immigration is faster than Heathrow but slower than Le Bourget. Weather diversion rate: 6% annual.
The verdict
For Paris-bound: Le Bourget every time. For London-bound: Luton if you accept the helicopter add-on; otherwise consider Farnborough or Biggin Hill. For multi-leg European tours, use both as anchor points.
